MR. IMPOSSIBLE, by Loretta Chase
I think this is one of Ms. Chase’s more recent efforts, and boy did I love it. Egypt! A bookish heroine! A funny, sexy hero!
AND NO RAPING!
That should probably be a tag here.
This is one of several in the Carsington series - I’m not sure which number, because I’m lazy. I also read LORD PERFECT, and freaking loved it, too. Chase writes with a lot of humor, plus has intelligent heroines who never get annoying. They also do not make stupid decisions just to serve the plot.
Rupert Carsington is impossible. He’s a smart-ass troublemaker who’s shipped off to Egypt by his father just to get him out of the family’s collective hair. It’s the 1820s, and the Rosetta Stone has yet to be cracked. Our heroine, Daphne Pembroke, is just the kind of brilliant scholar to do it. Except she’s a lady, with lady parts, and therefore is inferior in every way. Her brother Miles becomes the face of her brilliance; they pretend he’s really the scholar because ladiez ain’t supposed to use their brains thatta way. It’s unnatural!
I’m not going to get too plot heavy, but Miles gets snatched by BAD GUYS and Daphne and Rupert end up chasing him up and down the Nile in a bona-fide adventure. Rupert acts like a horny dumbass, but he’s not stupid at all, although he is all hornburgers for our brainy girl Daphne. Daphne know it’s bad to get all squishy for a gorgeous idiot like Rupert, but hmmmm maybe he’s not so stupid after all? She feels lusty feelings that ladies shouldn’t feel. However will she be able to express them?!
Fans of Elizabeth Peters will like this one, I think.
Two lady thumbs up!
From our sexy friend BrutallyHonestBabes. I have read this book and I can vouch for it being the Total Shit. I had no idea that “Rupert” could be a sexy name.
